Our IdentityThe Alpha Chi chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma is growing at UIUC, and we're on a mission to not only change the lives of the men who join us, but change Greek Life as we know it. For too long fraternity men have lost respect in their communities for bad behavior: we're looking to turn that trend around by forging men of principle. This mission helps define who we are as a chapter.
We seek to bring respect and honor back to fraternity, in everything we do. |
Brotherhood
The first chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma was founded by veterans of the first World War, based upon the fraternity found between brothers-in-arms. The brotherhood of Sig Tau at University of Illinois is no different; we are defined by the fact that we would do anything for one another, under any circumstance. with no feat too difficult, no obstacle too large, and no hour too late to help a brother in need.
An incredibly close-knit brotherhood is what makes Sig Tau a unique experience in fraternity life at UIUC. Here, you know every brother. And as brother of Sig Tau, you are not simply part of a social organization: you are member of a family. Like any family, the bonds you forge between your brothers are carried for a lifetime.

Leadership
One of our mottoes is "Building better leaders for America", and the first step to building better leaders for our country is building leaders within Sig Tau. As an expanding fraternity, we seek the best possible caliber of men to lead Sig Tau, and the men we trust as our leaders today shape the identity of our brotherhood tomorrow. Leadership is a crucial milestone in developing yourself professionally, intellectually, and as an individual. At Sigma Tau Gamma, almost every active member holds an important leadership position.
Academics
Academic performance is the most important aspect of college, and is vital for success later in life. Sig Tau recognizes academic excellence as a necessity, and every brother is given the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. Brothers hold one another accountable for their academics, and so does fraternity policy, encouraging participation in weekly study hours, tutoring, and academic planning. In addition, brothers have access to our comprehensive library of textbooks and class materials.
Philanthropy
A brother of Sig Tau sees giving back to the community not as an obligation, but as a privilege and an honor. Citizenship is one of our six sacred principles, and we are devoted to selfless action for the greater good of our University, Community, and Nation. Every single semester, Alpha Chi chapter spends over 100 collective hours volunteering in community service, and raises thousands of dollars for charitable organizations. The official philanthropy of Sig Tau is Special Olympics, and in 2016 we raised over $4000 dollars to support Special Olympics athletes in Illinois.
Social
Friendship is at the core of what makes the college experience a defining period in a person's life, and it is at the heart of what makes Sig Tau the best growing brotherhood at UIUC. We believe creating strong relationships with other organizations on campus is just as important as the relationships between brothers. Every semester Sig Tau partners with RSOs, sororities and other fraternities for philanthropies, greek life events, and social exchanges.
